The future of British speedway talent is set to be unleashed on the international stage! This season, Great Britain has secured a significant number of spots across various FIM and FIME events, offering a fantastic platform for our young riders to shine.
Let's break down where our aspiring champions will be competing:
SGP2 (World Under-21) Series Qualifiers
Great Britain will be sending four riders to battle it out in the qualifying rounds for the prestigious SGP2 series. Two of our hopefuls will take on the challenge at Fjelsted, Denmark on June 27. On the very same day, one rider each will compete in Krsko, Slovenia and Pardubice, Czech Republic. Remember last season, Dan Thompson and Jake Mulford were strong contenders in this series, and this year's cohort will be looking to build on that success.
FIM Speedway of Nations 2
Adding to the international calendar, GB will also be participating in the FIM Speedway of Nations 2 event, which is set to take place in Prague on May 22. This team event is always a thrilling spectacle!
SGP3 Qualifiers and Final
Looking at the younger age groups, Pardubice will host the SGP3 qualifiers on June 13. Here, three GB riders will be aiming to secure their spots in the Grand Final, which will be held in Wroclaw. Furthermore, one of our talented riders will compete in the SGP4 Final at Malilla, Sweden on June 11. It's exciting to see such dedicated pathways for our junior riders.
European Under-19 and 250cc Qualifiers
At the Under-19 level, GB is set to have two riders competing in Plzen, Czech Republic and one rider in Debrecen, Hungary on June 20 for the European Under-19 Qualifiers. Continuing the development pathway, two GB riders will also contest the European 250cc Qualifier at Zarnovica, Slovakia on August 1.
125cc Gold Trophy and Track Racing Cup
For the FIM and FIME 125cc Gold Trophy and Track Racing Cup, the action comes to Workington on August 8/9. Great Britain has been allocated two places in each event, with an additional two reserve spots. This is a fantastic opportunity for our youngest talents to gain valuable international experience.
Women's Gold Trophy and World Cup
And this is the part most people miss: the burgeoning talent in women's speedway is also being recognized! The Women’s Gold Trophy and World Cup will be held in Gorican, Croatia on July 4. Great Britain will be represented by one 500cc rider and one 250cc rider. This growing inclusion in major events is a positive sign for the sport's inclusivity.
